PSA — Don’t Get Mad at Marvel if Spider-Man: No Way Home Doesn’t Live Up to All the Rumors
--
I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a movie that has generated as many rumors as Spider-Man: No Way Home has done.
For better or worse, those rumors have already made the movie a box-office behemoth, crashing ticket-selling sites like Fandango mere minutes after they went on sale. I think it is safe to say that fans have a lot of expectations going into this flick.
But I have a request: please don’t let your expectations ruin your experience.
What I mean is, if some of the biggest rumors turn out not to be true, don’t hate the movie for it. Enjoy the movie for what it is rather than what it isn’t.
Possible SPOILERS to follow?
From the trailers, we already know that a lot is going down in this movie. We’ve got the return of the greatest baddies from both the Tobey McGuire and Andrew Garfield eras of the franchise, Doctor Strange and the multiverse (for reals this time… thanks, Mysterio), and something coming through the multiverse that the Strange can’t seem to stop. It’s gonna be a wild ride.
And while I’m certain that Marvel is keeping something from us — no matter what their trailers show, there’s always something even bigger left to discover in the movie — the one thing I’m not certain about is the other rumored actors in this film.
Look, all signs point to Tobey McGuire and Andrew Garfield being in this movie, too. And if they are, well… holy shit, this will be good. But I think it is very important to keep in mind that Disney, Sony, and Marvel have not once promised that these actors will appear. In fact, they’ve completely denied it. The actors themselves have denied it. And of course, they would do so if they were trying to keep it secret, but you know what? They’d also deny it if they aren’t in the movie. I mean, we’re pretty sure Andrew Garfield has been lying through his teeth about having no part to play in No Way Home, but maybe he’s just doing his very best to quash a rumor that he knows is 100% false (and if he is, I feel really bad for him that he has been continuously hounded about this movie). And perhaps most importantly, Kevin Feige has asked us to keep our expectations in check:
