My Top 20 Television Shows… So Far.
--
Last week, I sat down and decided that it would be helpful to find out what my top 20 favorite movies are at the moment. After all, I’ve seen so many.
And then I figured we should probably discuss my favorite books, too.
But I don’t exclusively watch movies and read books. There are many television shows that I love as much- if not more than- the movies on my previous list.
So, let’s get to talking about them. As with the movies list, I will refrain from picking more than one show per franchise… sorry, all of the Star Treks. I’m also including only shows that I’ve seen every episode for- they don’t have to be completely finished, but I need to have seen everything that is available to watch. Likewise, they have to be shows that I am willing to revisit multiple times- and in some cases have.
Possible Spoilers ahead.
№20: Sherlock
BBC’s Sherlock series had stiff competition for my enjoyment- I absolutely love the Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock Holmes movies. When I started watching this show, I had really no interest in seeing another actor playing Holmes, or seeing a Holmes set in modern day. I was, unfortunately, very wrong, and this show proved time and time again that it was one of the smartest shows on television. The cast is pure talent, from Mark Gatiss’ Mycroft to Andrew Scott’s Moriarty, but none are better at their roles than Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch as Watson and the titular Sherlock. It is the magnetic chemistry of the two leads that bring us back to this show time and time again, despite seasons that are too short and too far in between. If we don’t get more, I personally think it ended on the highest of high notes, but I’m still crossing my fingers for a 5th series.
