I’m Not Planning on Seeing Tenet in Theaters

The last time I saw a movie in theaters, it was a double feature: Disney/Pixar’s Onward and DC’s Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). We did a double feature because deep down we knew that with the looming COVID threat, it might be the last time we’d see a movie in the theater for a while.

And clearly, we were right; that was early March, and since Onward’s release, most of the movies we were anticipating have not be released.

That changes this week; starting on Friday, big titles like the oft-delayed New Mutants and the long overdue Bill and Ted Face the Music are finally hitting theaters. And, more importantly, next week Christopher Nolan’s Tenet finally makes its debut.

And I’m not planning on seeing it.

Now, this decision has nothing to do with the movie. If it were Black Widow or Wonder Woman or even by some film-making miracle The Batman (because at this time, they’ve only filmed about 25% of the flick), I’d still be making this hard choice. And it is a hard choice; besides the big comic book films coming out this year, Tenet is probably my most anticipated movie of the year. Any time Nolan releases a new movie, I’m there on opening weekend, and I’m going to see it on the biggest screen possible. I did it for every Batman film, I did it for Inception
