I Hear You Talk to Fish: An Aquaman Review

Oh… DC.

Honestly, the DC movies no longer have any draw for me, whatsoever. I’ve been let down by them more times that I’ve enjoyed them, and really the only movie they’ve made since the Dark Knight days that was totally worth it was Wonder Woman.

And then I start hearing impossible reviews that Aquaman is better than Wonder Woman. And so, despite having relatively little interest in seeing an Aquaman film, despite wanting to see Mary Poppins Returns and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, I found myself on Christmas Day in a screening of Arthur Curry’s inaugural flick.

And, well, to quote Robin from Young Justice, I was “whelmed.” It by no means whatsoever was as bad as Justice League or Suicide Squad, but it was no Wonder Woman either.

If I had to sum the movie up in one confusing sentence, I’d say that it was packed with too much, but what it gave us wasn’t enough. I know… I said it was a confusing sentence.

Frankly, the movie felt overstuffed with exposition and world building and plot, and much could have been trimmed out, but even with all the stuff that was bursting out of this movie’s 2.5…
