I have a ding on my MacBook Air like this that I have absolutely no idea where it came from; since I neglected to buy Apple Care for the laptop, I always keep it in a protective case and in a bag when not in use.
I also recently learned that while the iPhone’s Ceramic Shield protects it from shattering, it does absolutely nothing for scratches - and that the iPhone’s camera setup is a bit damaging. For a brief period, I was carrying around both my old iPhone 12 Pro Max and my iPhone 13 mini, and both screens got horribly scuffed up by the cameras of the opposite phones (there are telltale curved scrapes only in the corners where they would have met each other’s cameras). Thankfully, applying a screen protector after the fact disguised the scuffs, and I now keep both in a case so that if they happen to be in the same pocket again, hopefully the camera won’t come in direct contact with the screen again.
