Franchise Vs. Franchise: A Movie (and TV) Battle Royale

Let the Best Franchise Win.

I’ve never been one to hate a movie franchise because I love another; in my opinion, it is much more fun to enjoy them both.

That said, I don’t view them all equally. And if I one day find myself in some weird post-apocalyptic Facebook-driven world where I’m forced to choose one movie franchise and let the other disappear into oblivion (seriously, why do those Facebook posts seem to believe there isn’t room for all of the movies to co-exist?), I’d like to have my answer straight.

Now, no movie franchise is identical, so I won’t be comparing apples to apples here. In order to pair up franchises, I think they need to meet a few qualifications. First, the franchises must have something major in common; for example, I won’t be comparing Harry Potter to something like Twilight or Hunger Games, because they don’t have anything narratively similar other than being based on young adult novels that were super popular (and we all know which one would win that battle… always). Second, I feel that the franchises should have been in the collective consciousness around the same time; if you think about it, there are probably a few franchises that just seemed destined to be compared to one another.
