Does Pirates of the Caribbean Look Weird on Disney+?
Curse of the Blue Apple.
The other night, I sat down to watch Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl- as one does- and I noticed something odd. When Barbossa offered Elizabeth Swann an apple, it looked blue.
Now, I knew this was wrong for a number of reasons. Firstly, I remembered that the apple had been green originally- and I had memorized this movie, having seen it eight times in theaters and countless times on DVD and Blu-Ray. Secondly, I knew that blue apples didn’t exist… at least, not back in the 1700s. And thirdly, the apple had been green a few frames previously.
Now, I feel that I need to point out a couple of things here: A) I do feel like I’m diving into a wild conspiracy theory with this. B) The apple wasn’t exactly vibrant green to begin with; as you can see in this more color-accurate version on YouTube, the lighting in the shot makes the apple appear at best grayish-green. C) Disney might have avoided me noticing this if they’d used a Red Delicious apple instead of a Granny Smith. And D) It isn’t prominent, and it honestly may not even interrupt your enjoyment of the movie… unless you know the movie well enough to know it is wrong.
And let me be absolutely clear: the apple isn’t the only color difference- it is just the one that made…
